Dear colleagues: journalists and NGO representatives!
A few years ago NGO activists rarely thought about the importance of creation of public relations department within their organizations. Certainly, there were lots of reasons: someone didn’t have enough funds or human resources, someone suffered from banal lack of time or moreover – they didn’t realize the need for such a new item. After all, such words as "public relations", "press-center" and alike were hard to be linked with social activity. Therefore, our citizens knew little about the activity of Ukrainian NGOs.
At the same time, journalists didn’t notice NGOs for a long time, not treating them as sources of information worthy for media attention. Moreover, reporters didn’t see NGOs as suppliers of actual, burning news. However, today there is a strict understanding that only together (NGOs and the media) we are able not just inform the public about the existence of certain problems and ways of their solutions. The main thing is that by common deeds we can provide changes in our society.
Gender Center for Information and Analysis "KRONA" (before 2009 - Kharkiv women organization "KRONA") was one of the most active participants in social movement from the very beginning of its foundation. However, our own press-service has emerged a quite recently.
So, what is the aim of its existence?
First of all, our task is to provide as much information as possible on gender issues in our country and abroad. Our experts have a large volume of practical and theoretical information which could be very interesting for pressmen and NGO representatives. Vast media experience of our specialists allows our organization to consider the most accurately all features of text presentation in the Ukrainian media.
So, the main goals of our press-service existence are:
1. To provide the research results held not just by Gender Center "KRONA", but also by another Ukrainian, post-Soviet, European and world-famous institutions;
2. To provide as best we can the commentaries from our gender experts on such areas as education, media, law, etc. and to give free online consultations for journalists.
3. To generate regularly the informational events both at regional and national level, for print and electronic media as well.
4. To provide free the gender-balanced photo, video and audio content.
5. To prepare the professional journalistic materials on different topics concerning the activity of our organization.
6. To hold an expertise for text, audio or video content in the short term. This means a discovery of discriminative stereotypes and/or adopted expressions against women, men, kids or other groups.
7. To supply with books. Since we are interested in improving the professionalism of our media colleagues, we can provide professional literature on journalism upon request. Electronic library of our Center contains over one thousand books, textbooks and booklets useful for both beginners and experienced reporters.
8. To provide information on European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine (printed and digital). We can help with obtaining the expert commentary from recognized Ukrainian and European experts working in this area.
Sincerely,
