Informational and Publishing Activity of the Center
Agree that such a unit as “media-center” is not so widespread among NGOs. But it’s considered to be an integral part of today’s strong organizations. Our Center is not an exception. Lot of functions relies on this unit. The most important of them include:
Publication and distribution of print and digital products
Gender Magazine "Ya"
Each year the Gender Center for Information and Analysis “KRONA” publishes several numbers of the Gender Magazine "Ya". It is the only Ukrainian edition devoted to gender issues. The authors of the magazine are experts, academics, postgraduate students, researchers, NGO leaders from Ukraine and other post-Soviet countries. Each number requires a team work of the editorial board consisting of several experts, designer and an editor. Also specialists of the Gender Expert Platform are engaged in selection of articles. As a result we have black-and-white printed version (with color cover) and full-color digital version.
Educational and Methodological Materials
Gender center "KRONA" produces a range of books, manuals, tutorials and other literature on a regular basis. For example, in 2010 we have published a Textbook for Journalists “Gender View-2” (the first volume was published in 2009) and Analytical Report “Gender Issues from Students’ Viewpoint”. Furthermore, our readers have got such books as “Affirmative action for ensuring of equal rights and opportunities for women and men: international experience and Ukrainian prospects”, “Theoretical-methodological Analysis of the “State Program on Establishment of Gender Equality in Ukrainian Society until 2010” and recommendations on the elaboration of National Program “All-Ukrainian Action Plan on Establishment of Gender Equality until 2016”. Digital versions of all these publications are free to download on our website (just visit a category "Our Publications").
Schools for Journalists (1st and 2nd levels)
Today KRONA is the only public organization in Ukraine that deals with the professional training of Ukrainian pressmen on gender issues. The main feature of our schools is a unique combination of gender professionals and media experts. Usually such schools last several days. So, participants can get a theoretical basis as well as enrich their experience with lots of practical skills taking part in specially designed training modules.
Gender Website www.krona.org.ua
Recently KRONA has established an Informational Internet-Center (a website) with intention to accumulate the maximum amount of information on gender issues. Besides almost daily updated news we propose to our readers the most professional and interesting subject articles. The website might be interesting for different audiences: academics and students interested in gender, experts, fresh journalists and “media sharks”, scholars, postgraduates and researchers. The category "Photo Storage" with high-quality photos is useful both for pressmen and NGO activists who prepare to print subject leaflets or books. The category "Video" could help trainers and lecturers who wish to deepen their knowledge, or those feeling lack of appropriate video to analyze and organize a gender training program. Also you may be interested with website’s sections "Useful Links", "Library", "Glossary" and "Media Analysis".
Google Group for KRONA’s Gender Expert Platform
Our organization has not just initiated the foundation of the Gender Expert Platform (GEP). Carrying on a close cooperation with the independent experts and other public activists, KRONA is still concerned about the proceedings of new media tools in its activity. One of the modern Internet tools used for collaboration within GEP is a Google Group. Being online group participants can discuss the pressing issues, hold disputes, prepare common petitions or just share fresh information. This Google Group is close for other persons being created only for GEP members.
